Aims: To help teachers and students engaging in animal experiments; to breed and supply animals for use in experiments.

History: Before the NYMU was founded, because of the desperate need for animals for use in experiments following the rapid development of medicine and biotechnology, Anatomy Professor Ha Hong-qian and Architect Chang De-lin investigated related institutions in the USA and thus selected the experimental animal center of Hershey Medical School in Pennsylvania as the reference for this center. The construction of this 2-story fan-shaped structure with an area of 735 ping was initiated in 1979 and completed 3 years later. The school sent a letter of application to the Ministry of Education on 11 June 1984 to add the establishment of the experimental animal center to Article 15 of the Memorandum of Organization of the Yang Ming Medical College. The application was approved in July of the same year.
