       參與本研究室之學生不但須接受基礎神經生理相關技術訓練亦須接受臨床中風相關治療技巧之訓練,因此學生需具好學、勤快、有耐心等特性。學生於畢業時,除須繳交碩士論文外,亦須繳交一份以論文內容為主之投稿文稿。

    應用神經生理研究室主要是以神經生理學為基礎來探討臨床常見之疾病的恢復及治療機轉。在神經疾病之中,中風不僅為導致死亡之殺手,亦是造成殘障之主要原因,臨床上腦血管梗塞造成腦部之缺血是最常見的中風類型,而在腦部幾條主要的血管之中,以內頸動脈(internal carotid artery)的最大分枝-中大腦動脈(middle cerebral artery)是為腦梗塞最常發生之處。本研究室已經發展出以中大腦動脈阻塞(Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion, MCAO)的大鼠做為中風動物模型,並以此動物模型做一系列相關研究之探討。利用中大腦動脈阻塞的大鼠來探討臨床常見的腦部缺氧性中風,有下列幾個原因:大鼠與人類腦部循環之解剖及生理狀況十分相似,老鼠之價格便宜,大鼠腦部體積較小、較易固定。此外,本研究室亦已建立許多相關的神經和行為方面之評估技術,包括:利用TTC染色來測量腦梗塞體積、利用雷射杜譜勒血流計來測量腦血流、利用微透析法和高效能液相層析儀來測量腦脊髓液中神經傳導物質的量、利用大鼠的Grip Strength Meter來量測抓握肌力、利用神經分數來評估大鼠動作功能損傷程度等等。

     本研究室已陸續獲得國科會和榮總台聯大之補助而執行了許多相關之研究計劃,部份之研究成果已有數篇發表在國際SCI知名期刊上。而經由本研究室計畫之陸續完成,當可更進一步了解中風之生理病理變化及訓練的保護及治療之效果,以及年齡對中風恢復和訓練效果之影響,以提供更多有關中風恢復及機轉之知識。
