Current Research:

The group aims to develop an understanding of the mechanisms of musculoskeletal injuries and recovery in order to facilitate clinical assessment and therapeutic strategies. Our current work is organized in the following areas:

1.    Clinical orthopedic and sports physical therapy, focuses on assessment and treatment of the common musculoskeletal disorders such as chronic neck pain and back pain, shoulder impingement, knee osteoarthritis, chronic foot and ankle disorders, patellofemoral pain.

2.    Musculoskeletal biomechanics, focuses on the kinematics and kinetics of the shoulder complex as well as the hip-knee-ankle-foot chain.

3.    Neuromuscular control, focuses on the role of the neurodynamic theory and corticospinal control in musculoskeletal pain.

Research topics:

l  EMG analysis of prime movers during various exercises

l  Effectiveness or efficacy of physical therapy in patients with cervical and lumbar dysfunctions

l  Neuromuscular control and kinematics of the head, neck, and shoulder region and the treatment effect of physical therapy

l  Effectiveness or efficacy of physical therapy in patients with knee osteoarthritis

l  Effectiveness or efficacy of Kinesio taping on patients with musculoskeletal disorders

l  Studies of orthopedic physical therapy outcome measures

l  Patellar tracking and neuromuscular control of the extensor mechanism

l  Neurodynamics of the patellofemoral pain syndrome

l  Applications of Pilates and Gyrokinesis exercises in musculoskeletal injury and pain

l  Application of Kinetic control theory in assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injury and pain
