National Yang-Ming University is the first medical science specialized university in Taiwan. In view of the need and importance of physical therapists in clinic medicine, Yang-Ming University developed its undergraduate entry-level bachelor program in Physical Therapy in 1988. To promote physical therapy profession and continue our comprehensive health care, the Institute of Physical Therapy was established in 2000, providing advanced Master of Science degrees (MS) in Physical Therapy. The Institute was the second graduate program of physical therapy in Taiwan.

The Institute and Faculty of Physical Therapy at Yang-Ming University has it strongly collaborative clinical affiliation with the main teaching hospitals in Taipei, such as Veterans General Hospital - Taipei, Cheng-Shin Hospital, Shin-Kung Hospital, and Mai-Kau Hospital. These hospitals provide our students internship training in the area of orthopedic, neurologic, pediatric, and cardiopulmonary physical therapy.

The Institute and Faculty of Physical Therapy include 10 full time faculty with earned doctorates in science or medicine field. Our faculty is actively engaged in original research and provides new knowledge and scientific evidence to support the clinical physical therapy practice. Faculty laboratories are currently investigating 1) effects of physical therapy intervention, 2) movement patterns and control, and 3) physiological mechanism in a variety of clinical populations (e.g. stroke, Parkinson's, cerebral palsy, lumbar dysfunction, osteoarthritis, cardiac patients, young infants). Nonetheless, faculty is also actively involved in clinical practice to apply the new research evidence into clinics.
