About Us
Founded in 1992, the Institute of Health & Welfare Policy is the first graduate institute in Taiwan dedicated to interdisciplinary research on health and welfare policies. Its aim is to cultivate talent in areas relating to health policy, health insurance and welfare policies. After the opening and reform of the National Health Insurance scheme, both the government and private sectors need professionals that can effectively integrate health and welfare as the age of the population increases.
Therefore, to catch up with social changes, we have planned and integrated curricula related to health and welfare to in order to cultivate talent that the country desperately needs. In fact, the Department of Social Medicine of NYMU started academic research and education on health and welfare as early as 1977. Next, the Institute of Public Health was founded in 1985. In 1994, the Health Policy Division of the Institute of Public Health introduced its first independent Master’s program. In 2005 the Institute of Health & Welfare Policy introduced its first Doctoral program for admissions in 2006.
