  Curriculum of combined graduate program and specialty training in  prosthodontics

1st year

Take required courses, determine thesis project, and submit research proposal. The clinical training will be five half days per week during semesters and full time during summer and winter break.

2nd year

Full time for clinical training. The research should be performed using after-hours or non-working days.

3rd year

Take required courses, finalize research and finish thesis writing. The clinical training requirement is five half days per week.

Other requirements:

1. Submit clinical case reports which fulfill the requirement of specialty training of the Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry, R.O.C.

2. At least one presentation in related meeting during the program.

 

 

 General scheme of combined orthodontic graduate and specialist training program

1st year

Take credential courses (at campus) and five half-day clinical training (at VG Hospital) per week. No winter recess for clinical training, and some extra clinical time may be required accordingly.

2nd year

Full time clinical training is starting on the first day of July till the beginning of the third year. Students must proceed their research work at their own spare time.

3rd year

Take elective credits and proceed research works and thesis writing. Five half-day clinical training per week.


 

 

 Outlines of courses of combined specialist and graduate training in Periodontics

1.Graduate students must complete a minimum two-year full time clinical training program in periodontal department.

2.Training program of graduate student

1st year

Focusing on research training

2nd year

Full-time clinical training (ten half-days a week) and conduct research project in extra curriculum

3rd year

Full-time clinical training (ten half-days a week), conduct research project and finish thesis in extra curriculum

Graduate students are allowed to change curriculum. If students have five half-day clinical training per week, two-year clinical training will be recognized as one-year full-time clinical training.

3.Basic requirement for specialist training in periodontics programs:

(1) Clinical cases with full documentation of periodontal treatment: 20 cases.

(2) Periodontal flap surgery: 100 cases.

(3) Periodontal plastic surgery: 10 cases.

(4) Periodontal regeneration surgery: 20 cases.

(5) Cases combined with prosthetic orthodontic therapy: 15 cases.

(6) Implant surgery: 5 fixtures installation.

(7) Periodontal treatment plan report (within the first three month of clinical training): 10 cases.

(8) Complete periodontal treatment cases report: 10 cases.

(9) Assist teaching activity of periodontology in Yang-Ming University if necessary.

(10) One oral presentation in Dental Association, Republic of China or Academy of Peridontology , Republic of China.

(11) Five complete documents of clinical photographs recorded in compact disc are conserved in Periodontal department after finishing clinical training.

(12) A certificate will be granted only after the above requirement has been met.

 

 

 

 

The four-year integrated Master/OMS graduate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Dental School of Yang-Ming Medical University

  The Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, in conjugation with the VGH - Taipei Medical Center, offers a four-year training program leading to the master degree and the Oral and Maxillofacial residency certificate. The program includes one year as a full-time student at the Dental School of Yang-Ming Medical University and three years as a resident on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service. Two resident positions are available each year and the clinical training takes place at the Veteran General Hospital Medical Center - Taipei. This comprehensive program is a clinical-oriented, with a well-balanced learning of basic research and patient care. A certificate of specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is awarded upon successful completion of this program.

  The goal of our resident training program is to prepare a clinically outstanding surgeon who possesses the overall knowledge and capacity to pursue a career in any aspect of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The program offers strong clinical training, covering the full extent of oral and maxillofacial surgery and thorough education in basic research about bone and oral cancer biology. While on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Service, residents receive extensive training in dentoalveolar surgery, implantology, facial trauma, reconstructive surgery, anesthesiology, orthognathic surgery, oral pathology, TMJ surgery, maxillofacial radiology, orthodontics, facial pain, etc. Major surgical cases are performed in the operating rooms of the VGH-Taipei Medical Center. The wide spectrum of clinical cases treated at our hospital along with our devoted faculty of supreme clinicians allows us to offer extraordinary experience and training to our residents. The scientific background of surgical practice is highlighted in lectures, seminars, and conferences throughout the training program.

Candidates who complete the program are eligible for OMS Specialist examination by the ROC Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

four years ( one year at Dental School of Yang Ming Medical University, one year receiving general training at Sections of Anesthesia, Internal Medicine and Surgery and two years in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery )

Summary of the rotations of four years' OMS program

Rotations in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are scheduled as following:

1st year

Dental School of Yang Ming Medical University; OPD and ward of OMS at VGH - Taipei.
( Preliminary clinical training at OMS OPD 5 half-days a week while in school days and 2 months' advanced training ay OMS ward in first year's summer vocation )

2nd year

General Medical Training - Sections of Anesthesia, Internal Medicine and Surgery at VGH-Taipei.
(Highly flexible course, including Anesthesia, Radiology, Cardiovascular, Chest and Pulmonary, Infection, Metabolism, Gastrointestinal, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Surgical ICU, etc.)

3rd year

OMS ward of VGH - Taipei
( Continuous laboratory work at school by 2 half-days a week )

4th year

Dental School of Yang Ming Medical University
( Continuous clinical training at OPD or ward of OMS by 5 half-days a week )

1st year

For those who opt for family dentistry specialist training, the clinical training will be five half days per week during semesters as well as during summer and winter breaks.

For those who do not opt for specialist training, extra courses equivalent to 6 credits should be selected instead, and more discussion or field work should be arranged.

2nd year

For those who opt for family dentistry specialist training, Full time clinical training will be arranged. The research should be performed using after-hours or non-working days.

For those who do not opt for specialist training, extra courses equivalent to 4 credits should be selected instead, and more discussion on thesis-related researches should be arranged. At least two drafted papers should be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, among which at least one should have been accepted before graduation.

3rd year

For those who opt for family dentistry specialist training, the clinical training will be five half days per week during semesters as well as during summer and winter breaks. More discussion on thesis-related researches should be arranged. At least two drafted papers should be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, among which at least one should have been accepted before graduation.

Individualized modification may be arranged through due processes.

Other requirements:

1. Submit clinical case reports which fulfill the requirement of specialty training of the Association of Family Dentistry, R.O.C.

2. At least two presentations in related meeting during the program.

 

 

 

 Curriculum of combined graduate program and specialty training in  endodontics

A. Objectives:

 

The goal of this training program is to prepare a clinically outstanding endodontist who possesses the overall knowledge and capacity to result problems in endodontics.

B. Outlines of academic year

1st year

Students will normally be expected to spend a minimum of two and a half days per week in patient treatment. Students will select graduate courses for scientific and endodontic knowledge. All graduate students will design and write a research protocol.

2nd year

Student will continue scientific courses to fulfill a minimum requirement of 24 graduate level credit hours. Clinical training has to satisfy the endodontic training program for eligibility for the Academy of Endodontology, ROC.

3rd year

Students will finish the original research and complete a thesis. Clinical training has to satisfy the endodontic training program for eligibility for the Academy of Endodontology, ROC.

C. Basic requirement for specialist training in endodontic program:

 

1. Nonsurgical root canal treatment: 150 cases (50 molars at least)

 

2. Endodontic surgery: 10 cases.

 

3. Traumatic injury: 5 cases.

 

4. Apexogenesis or apexification: 10 cases.

 

5. Nonvital bleaching: 2 cases.

 

6. Difficult cases using microscope: 30 cases

 

 

 Outlines of Advanced Education in General Dentistry

A: Objectives:

 

Total patient care is based on developing a patient-centered service with integrating the interdisciplinary treatments. The main goal of the program is to improve the ability of diagnosis, treatment plane, clinical skills, and referral system of the general dentists.

B: Outlines of academic year

1st year

Take credential courses and five half-day clinical training per week; decide the topic of the Thesis and research plan. No winter recess for clinical training, and some extra clinical time may be required accordingly.

2nd year

Five half-day clinical training per week; fulfill the requirement of 24 credit hours for Master degree, and finish the research project and thesis writing.

Clinical training will be at Section of General Dentistry in VGH-Taipei.
